That's right... welding as art. If you'd asked me when I started up this blog what topics I was going to cover, welding would probably not have been at the top of my list. Or anywhere on my list. But leave it to stumbleupon to once again lead me to something you just don't see everyday.
Enter sculptor Cal Lane, who is either a welder that just happens to be an artist or an artist that just happens to be a welder... I'm not sure. It really doesn't matter either, because her work just plain kicks ass! She excels at taking mundane, industrial objects like oil drums, wheel barrows, shovels, I-beams, old car doors, etc. and turning them into beautiful and complex pieces of art that are incredible studies in contradictions and contrasts. There really is so much more conceptually to the pieces than just the stunning craftsmanship and I couldn't do them justice if I tried. You need to visit her website and read her own words for yourself to get the full impact of this art.
